The good friends at TOMS hooked up fellow Active co-workers for a fun night of bowling & karaoke at Linbrook Bowl the other night in Anaheim! If you weren’t there, you blew it!!! Especially if you missed out on the karaoke. Thanks TOMS!
The holidays are in full effect and there is one thing we all have in common this time of year, shopping! I don’t know how you decide, but I love to put my top picks onto a wish list. With this season’s Women’s clothing now in the shop, my wants are growing by the day! Right now I am totally loving chunky sweaters, sheer bell bottoms, navajo print tops, and festive leggings. On my wish list is everything from brands like RVCA, Obey , and TOMS. My top items this year are The Timing sheer bell bottoms, the Obey Native Cardigan, Milky Way Winter leggings, the Obey Jealous Lover Jacket, the Timing stripe blouse, and the RVCA Nadia Cape. I can not wait to show off these new pieces and look great going into the New Year! Stop by any Active Ride Shop to check out the newest Holiday collections – there are only a few shopping days left!!

About 5 months ago we held a handful of these TOMS Pop Up Events. It was so good that we are coming to Long Beach and El Segundo.
TOMS Pop Up Event is a night where we invite local artists to come out and customize TOMS for attendees and a live musical act to spice up the night with some tunes.
We will have free live screen printing t-shirts and tote bags for the first 50 people.
Don’t miss out, we will be at Active El Segundo on October 9th and Active Long Beach on October 16th.
Active Ride Shop is making a commitment to Toms Shoes to sell 10,000 pairs of Toms Shoes in 2010 throughout our 21 stores and other fundraisers. Our neighbors and good friends at the Evocal art gallery at The Camp in Costa Mesa, CA played host for the campaign launch rally/party. Their artist customized Toms, executed live murals and displayed the groups gnarly collection of earthy masterworks. Guests enjoyed performances from Wes Rodgers and Pawn Shop Kings. Great people and good times for a righteous cause! Learn more here.
July is in full swing and, for most of us, summer is just getting started! But, get ready, because Fall fashion is making it’s way onto the scene…
We packed up our women’s Fall collection a couple of weeks ago and headed to the streets of Los Angeles, where – in the midst of the summer heat – photographed some of the looks for next season. Enjoy some behind the scenes footage we captured on our video camera, as well as some photos. And be sure to stop by your local Active shop, or online, to check out some of the new fall styles that have just landed (Im a fan of this one).
If you love TOMS shoes, and live in the Southern California area, mark your calendar for this Saturday, July 18th, when Active hosts a GIVE event with TOMS shoes and the Krochet Kids at the Irvine Spectrum. Check here for more details.
The Krochet Kids spent some time at our Irvine Spectrum shop last week setting up an awesome window display to promote the Give Event coming up in July.
You wont want to miss it – join us Saturday July 18th when Active hosts an event to benefit friends of Toms and Krochet Kids with live music by Dustin Kensrue and more, live murals, customized Toms shoes, and cut and sew beanies from Krochet Kids. Save the date – July 18th at Active Irvine Spectrum, from 5-10pm. See you there!Error loading Flickr gallery
Memorial Day is behind us and ahead lies the season of backyard BBQ’s, days at the beach, the OC fair, and tall glasses of lemonade. That’s right – SUMMER! It’s right around the corner and if you’re not prepared, well, Active’s got you covered!
The RVCA Luna Tank is a simple piece you can throw on with your favorite jeans, or over your bikini when you head to the beach.
Active’s very own Rosalita Dress has a great fit you can dress up, or dress down.
The RVCA Ferris Skirt is a must have this summer – you can wear it with just about anything.
I love TOMS’ new Rope Sole shoe. A twist on their classic canvas shoe – they are so cute, and as always, incredibly comfortable.
Of course accessories are a must…
The Dude by Sabre is a fun take on a classic wayfarer style.
The Nixon Time Teller P is a bright splash of color for your wrist at an unbeatable price.
One magazine I look forward to most every month is NYLON. From cover to cover it’s full of all that’s new in art, music, fashion, and beauty. I was looking through a recent issue the other day and stumbled across an article on Summer Rayne Oakes, a 24 year-old environmental scientist, entomologist, model, and fashion designer (to name a few) who has made it her job to put to rest the myth that eco-friendly fashion and beauty means that you have to sacrifice style. She also, in the midst of all of this, found time to write a book! Style, Naturally, a style-guide for girls who, like you and me, love style but might not always have “green” in their vocabulary. It’s a wonderfully beautiful book that joins hundreds of amazing photographs with personal insight, resources, factual information on eco-friendly fashion and beauty, and profiles on some of our favorite brands and designers who are choosing to make sustainability a priority.
One brand mentioned is TOMS shoes and their amazing ‘one for one movement’, where for every pair purchased TOMS will give a pair of shoes to a child in need. Summer joined TOMS on one of their shoe drops to South Africa and helped place 50,000 pairs of shoes on children’s feet. In her book she mentions their use of local and natural materials, as well as TOMS’ new eco/vegan shoe. We sell TOMS at a few of our Active Stores, as well as online. Go pick up a pair! I have a few, and I love them! If you find yourself at your local bookstore, or browsing around amazon.com, I definitely suggest you check out Summer Rayne Oakes’ book, Style, Naturally. Even if you’re not a “green” enthusiast, it’s an amazing collection of images and information for any girl out there who loves fashion!Check out this video on what inspires Summer, and what motivated her to write this book!
Toms Shoes is a unique company that gives back to those in need. For every pair a customer buys TOMS donates a pair to children in other countries who are in need. Since 2006 TOMS has given over 10,000 pairs of shoes to children in Argentina and 50,000 pairs of shoes to children in South Arica and are continuing towards a goal of 200,000 pairs of shoes to children around the world who are in need by the end of 2008. The amazing cause and dedication of TOMS Shoes has caught the eye of the fashion world. What started out as a simple style that wasn’t at all fashion forward has become just that. Their shoes are now seen everyday so many people and they’ve expanded on their colors and prints to offer a great selection and to catch the attention of new customers. Recently they’ve stepped into the fashion scene even further with the Wrap boot, the same TOMS Shoes idea, but in the boot form. These are starting to be seen on the streets and are becoming popular favorites. Want to get some and take part in the TOMS cause? Check out Active’s website here as well as visit the stores for your Wrap Boot purchase!
TOMS Shoes, Element Skateboards and Active all teamed up to bring Orange County an art show and benefit this past Sunday, August 3rd. Mike Crum, The Growlers, and Ray Barbee all performed live sets at the event and there was artwork displayed all around theCAMP in Costa Mesa. Aside from the bands, the huge mural being painted, free shaved ice, free BBQ going on, etc, we had a promotion where if you bought a pair of TOMS shoes you could get them personalized by numerous artists. Artists such as Don Pendleton, Todd Francis, Mike Kershner and many more came out to the event and painted TOMS shoes for lucky customers. Check out the photos and thanks to everyone who came out to the event and made it possible and to all the sponsors who were involved that made the day a huge success!
