Oakley: Get Dem Frogskins Contest @ Huntington Beach!

The first stop of the Oakley “Get Dem Frogskins” contest series was at Active Huntington Beach during the Nike US Open of Surf. And by frogskins, we don’t mean the sunglasses, we mean the green $$$! Thanks to Oakley, we have a new set-up for the obstacles built by the amazing #butterfloe_rampco. For each obstacle, every hammer done was given solid cash. A total of $1000 was handed out to those who were ripping!

The STITCH: Summer Sunnies!

As spring comes to an end and we enter into summer (the greatest season of the year, if you ask me!), we start to focus on one of my personal favorite accessories; sunglasses. This year the sunnie trends are big and with music festivals and outdoor activities in full swing you can be sure that you will see a lot of these great spectacles. This season Active Ride Shop has all of your favorite sunnie trends with a selection from brands like Sabre, Ray Ban, Ashbury, Electric, and Spy, to name a few. Here are two styles that I’m totally loving this season:

The Cat-Eye
This lens is a great way to show your feminine side and is reminiscent of the 60’s when women sported these with pencil skirts and red lips. The SABRE Love Doll is the perfect pair if you’re looking for a good cat-eye.  Plus, it comes in black and tortoise, so you can have a pair to go with every outfit!

The Wayfarer
The wayfarer style is as classic as it get’s.  Ray Ban has offered this iconic frame since the 50’s and it hasn’t lost it’s appeal yet.  It the perfect style and looks great on everybody! Available in black gloss and tortoise – it doesn’t get much more classic than that!!  And, so many other brands are getting on the trend that you can find even more styles and colors from brands like SABRE, ACTIVE, Ashbury, and Oakley.

The STITCH: Ladies in Mammoth!

Last weekend the Active crew headed up to Mammoth Mountain for a little adventure. Although it’s technically a trip for the guys, this year the ladies decided we’d have a presence as well. It was an awesome 3 days full of laughing, snowboarding, great company, and the first annual Savage Games!

We all piled into a tour bus and made the treck up to the mountains.  About half way up back luck struck and our bus broke down! A few minor repairs and we were on our way.

We made it to Mammoth at about 8:00pm on Sunday night. Oakley set up a rad poker game at Lakanukie bar, a great spot in town. We then headed over to Hyde bar to watch The Fling, thanks to Ezekiel, jam the night away with great tunes!!

The next day was the Savage Games tournament (thanks to Matix and Beer Savage!) where we broke up into teams and battled it out in everything from beer bongs to eating pies as quick as we could.

The Witchy Women team killed it, we were the only girl team and faced the competition full force in our punk rock get ups!

Tracking Eero….

tracking-eero

Oakley’s 1242 Productions, in cooperation with Friday Productions announced today the upcoming release of Tracking Eero, a multi-media collaboration, which includes a television series, webisodes and a documentary video, all starring world renowned snowboarder Eero Ettala.

“Tracking Eero showcases the true depth of Eero’s riding,” says Chris Hotell, Tracking Eero Executive Producer and Oakley Sports Marketing Manager. “We took him out of his element and pushed him into new scenarios, including trips with athletes he never rides with. It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for him and we documented it.”

Sabre Vision and Oakley, givin’ us options!

When it comes to style and fashion, having options is great!  Summer is right around the corner, and that means bikinis! When it comes to swim I’m a big fan of mix-and-match separates. Now, with the help from our friends at Sabre and Oakley, we have that same freedom this spring and summer with our eyewear! Both companies have released styles with interchangeable arms.  Thanks to new hinge technology we have been given the gift of customization!   Sabre introduced the Maddness, now in 4 switch-able colors-white and teal, or stripes.

Sabre Madness

Oakley took their classic, the Frogskins, a step further with a Limited Edition “4-legged” option.  You can find them in matte turquoise/white/grey and matte denim/grey/grey.   Stop by Active and check out the newest styles from both Oakley, and Sabre!

Check out the lastest lingo from Snowboarder Magazine’s Sicktionary post.

Spotting (Spa- – Tting): In the middle of your trick, Llooking down in the middle of your trick to find your landing. Spotting on your genitalia is not as beneficial to your health.

Black and White (Bla-k – Kuh and Why- – tuh): Photos that lack color… … but not depth. “Tones” is the term used to discuss the shades of black, greygray, and white in each shot. Saying that snowboarders are “toned” is kind of a grey gray matter.

Grain (Grey- nuh): Texture or fuzz on film. High High-speed films, super Super 8, and 16mm have more grain than “slower” films (such as 100, or 200 speed film). If horses were pulling Nicolas, they would be fast, and would have eaten a lot of grain.

Here some Jib terminology brought to you by Rome’s Yan Dofin, who is no stranger to the “Jib”! Read below to see if you are current with all the jibber jabber on the street!

Smith [smihth] adj: A skateboarding trick that snowboarders once thought they could do. It involves trucks— (which we don’t have—), so leave it alone, ladies and gents.

Firecracker [fi-urr-crahk-urr] verb: Tailpressing down a flight of stairs so your tail slaps each and every step on the way down, making it sound very similar to firecrackers exploding.

Hot Garbage [haht gahr-bij] noun: A frontside boardslide where your board is turned well past the perpendicular 90? mark. The more your tail turns down the hill, the hotter the garbage is.

SNOWBOARDER MAGAZINE?s Sicktionary: September 2007

This photo was taken in Qu?bec City on my first filming trip of the year. They had plenty of snow, which allowed us to get creative and do some different things. It was a fun setup. Here I am doing a wallride to fakie. Eddie Wall, Nic Sauv?, and I got to hit it for a few hours before it got too dark. We all got something on it, so that was a plus.-Jake Welch

Qu?bec City (Kuh-beck Sit-ee) noun The capital of the Canadian province of Qu?bec, it holds a metric population of 528,595. As Canada?s answer to Salt Lake City, Qu?bec?s rails and ledges are shaping some of today?s most notorious jibbers, including LNP, Nic Sauv?, Ben Bilocq, Max Baillargeon, Marie-France Roy, Frank April, Charles Gagnon, Will Lavigne, etc., etc.
