The Stitch: Women’s Spring 2013 Trends

I don’t think anyone is as excited for spring as I am! There are so many things to look forward to… spring break, sunshine, music festivals, road trips, etc. With Spring and all of its perks comes new trends in fashion- colors, prints, fabrics, etc. Pastels such as mint and coral are going to be the go to colors of the season. Prints such as camo, florals, and stripes are going to be HOT. Fabrics that are light weight for example, knits, chiffon, and lace are going to be easy to wear during the transition between winter and spring. NOW is the time to shop for all of your favorite spring trends. You can find them at an Active location near you!

The STITCH: Paid Dues 2012

Last Saturday I got to groove to new and legendary hip hop beats at the Paid Dues Festival at the NOS center in good ol’ San Bernardino.  The 88 degree weather didn’t stop me from watching Wu-Tang’s early 4 o’clock set. Even though I was uncomfortably sweaty, it was awesome to hear the rest of the Wu-Tang clan pay tribute to the late ODB as they played his hit “Shimmy Shimmy Ya”. Wu-Tang had everyone in the crowd jumping and throwing up the WU sign to hits like “Bring Da Ruckas” and “C.R.E.A.M”. I was hyped!

I also had the pleasure of seeing Boom Camp Clik, Hieroglyphics, Living Legends, Odd Future, and Dipset perform. Living Legends had the best performance hands down. I threw up the “L” as they performed their hits “Never Falling Down” and “She Wants Me.”

I’ve heard stories about Odd Future shows and the craziness that happens, but I was not prepared for what I experienced. Colorful balloons decorated the stage as members of OF grilled hamburgers while performing. Mosh pits were created, people crowd surfed, and drinks were being thrown everywhere. It got a little too intense – I had to watch from the back!

As soon as OF finished their last song, I rushed to the front of the stage to watch Dipset perform. I was most excited about this performance but it ended up being the most disappointing. Although I was hyped that all four members (Cam’ron, Freekey Zekey, Jim Jones, and Juelz Santana) showed up, I could barely hear Cam’s voice.  I was so disappointed! But, they did play my favorites “Dipset Anthem” and “Bout It, Bout It.”. Plus, it was pretty rad seeing OF bouncing in the front with the rest of the fans!

In between sets I visited the Active Booth where Luke was chillin’. He was having a good time too!

All in all it was an amazing night of hip hop! If you missed this year’s Paid Dues festival, here are some videos of the shows I saw! Can’t wait ’til next year!!

The STITCH: 2012 – The Year to Rock Out!

2012 is definitely going to be the year to rock out! There are so many music festivals coming up, but there are three in particular that I have my eye on.

March 3rd, Cypress Hill will be hosting the annual SmokeOut Festival in San Bernardino at the NOS Center. I’m totally excited!  This year SmokeOut will have performances by Sublime with Rome, Thievery Corporation and Curren$y! Plus, there’s no better venue than the NOS Center!

The next music fest that I’m excited for is the Paid Dues Festival on April 7. WU-Tang and Odd Future will be headlining and bridging the gap between old school and new school.  Both groups are great performers, and it’s definitely going to get crazy!

But, nothing will be as crazy as Coachella is going to be this year! The two-weekend festival in April had tickets selling out last July, before the bands were even announced!  The line up this year is AMAZING with bands like Refused and At the Drive In reuniting after years apart, Radiohead and The Black Keys, plus Dr. Dre and Snoop Dog are set to end the show. Coachella is comparable to a modern day Woodstock, and an awesome event that embraces music of all kinds.

Mark your calendars, save up some cash, and do what you got to do because these festivals are not one to miss!

Till Then!

Musink 2010

The 2010 Musink Festival at the OC Fairgrounds was a historic event for Active! It was an amazing blend of radness, tattoo artists, skateboarding and good times!  With sick bands like The Damned, Buzzcocks, NOFX and even a Black Flag tribute band featuring Mike Vallely and Duane Peters.

The Legends Jam included skateboarding hall of famer’s Tony Alva, Duane Peters, Salba, Steve Olsen, Christian Hosoi, Eric Dressen, Eddie Reategui, and Ben Schroeder.  Highlights include a tour of the tattoo halls by Creature Hessian Neil Heddings and a puppet show by Father Abraham.

Huge props to SpeerCo for the providing the Jarritos Halfpipe!! And to everyone that showed up and showed their support. Thank you very much and we’ll see you next year!
