The STITCH: Ladies in Mammoth!

Last weekend the Active crew headed up to Mammoth Mountain for a little adventure. Although it’s technically a trip for the guys, this year the ladies decided we’d have a presence as well. It was an awesome 3 days full of laughing, snowboarding, great company, and the first annual Savage Games!

We all piled into a tour bus and made the treck up to the mountains.  About half way up back luck struck and our bus broke down! A few minor repairs and we were on our way.

We made it to Mammoth at about 8:00pm on Sunday night. Oakley set up a rad poker game at Lakanukie bar, a great spot in town. We then headed over to Hyde bar to watch The Fling, thanks to Ezekiel, jam the night away with great tunes!!

The next day was the Savage Games tournament (thanks to Matix and Beer Savage!) where we broke up into teams and battled it out in everything from beer bongs to eating pies as quick as we could.

The Witchy Women team killed it, we were the only girl team and faced the competition full force in our punk rock get ups!

Trends this spring: Almost anything goes!

Have you noticed how many different styles are making their way back into fashion? For a while it seemed like when a new trend began, the others made their way out. Not true anymore my friends!

The Bohemian look, inspired by the likes of Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix, is still going strong with Native American style prints, beaded belts and handbags, tie-dye and bold colors. The classics reminiscent from the 50’s like delicate floral pieces and wedge sandals are showing up everywhere. While the 80’s have continued to make a statement with bright colors, geometric prints, and rock inspired fashion. Not to mention, the early 90’s have made it back onto the radar with cut-off denim and Dr. Martens!

Ladies we have entered a time where almost anything goes! It’s refreshing, and exciting! I browsed some of our favorite brands like Billabong, Ezekiel, Insight, and RVCA, to see what looks they’re coming up with. These are some of my favorites; I hope they inspire you as well!

Spring Fashion 2009, Hello!

I am so ready for spring fashion! Don’t get me wrong, I love winter with the coats, and scarves, and boots, and dresses with tights.  But, come March, I am ready to start to shed some layers!  There is so much to look forward to in fashion this spring-color, prints, tie-dye, washed cotton, dresses, cute tops.  Every magazine and fashion website I look at, they all showcase such great collections for spring 2009. In the stores we have already started to see some new product trickle in, starting a couple of weeks ago with Ezekiel, and this last week with Insight (and that’s just the beginning!).  I stopped by our Irvine store to ask the ladies working what they thought; check out the photos of the girls wearing some of their favorite pieces. One of my favorites so far is a top by Insight, the Cookin’ Class Tank.  A great fitting cotton tank with a whimsical print on the front, and a bold geometric print on the back-pair it with cute shorts and great shoes, and you’re good to go!  I can’t wait!  Error loading Flickr gallery

Style, Naturally:Summer Rayne Oakes

Summer Rayne Oakes

One magazine I look forward to most every month is NYLON.  From cover to cover it’s full of all that’s new in art, music, fashion, and beauty.  I was looking through a recent issue the other day and stumbled across an article on Summer Rayne Oakes, a 24 year-old environmental scientist, entomologist, model, and fashion designer (to name a few) who has made it her job to put to rest the myth that eco-friendly fashion and beauty means that you have to sacrifice style.  She also, in the midst of all of this, found time to write a book!  Style, Naturally, a style-guide for girls who, like you and me, love style but might not always have “green” in their vocabulary.  It’s a wonderfully beautiful book that joins hundreds of amazing photographs with personal insight, resources, factual information on eco-friendly fashion and beauty, and profiles on some of our favorite brands and designers who are choosing to make sustainability a priority.

TOMS shoe drop

One brand mentioned is TOMS shoes and their amazing ‘one for one movement’, where for every pair purchased TOMS will give a pair of shoes to a child in need. Summer joined TOMS on one of their shoe drops to South Africa and helped place 50,000 pairs of shoes on children’s feet.  In her book she mentions their use of local and natural materials, as well as TOMS’ new eco/vegan shoe.  We sell TOMS at a few of our Active Stores, as well as online.  Go pick up a pair!  I have a few, and I love them!  If you find yourself at your local bookstore, or browsing around amazon.com, I definitely suggest you check out Summer Rayne Oakes’ book, Style, Naturally. Even if you’re not a  “green” enthusiast, it’s an amazing collection of images and information for any girl out there who loves fashion!Check out this video on what inspires Summer, and what motivated her to write this book!
