Paul Rodriguez dropped in yesterday for a quick chat, and we made sure to get the latest scoop on the skateboarding superstar’s life as of late. The biggest news Paul had for us was that he just finished shooting a movie with Rob Dyrdek. The movie has numerous cameos by a bunch of different skateboarders you know and love, notably Terry Kennedy and Jim Greco. The movie is called “Street Dreams,” and is a full length feature film. Paul said that he was unsure if it was going to make it to theaters, but there’s a good chance it will. In the movie Paul plays the part of a small town skateboarder from Chicago named Derek Cabrera. In the movie, Derek has to overcome a bunch of obstacles in his life to attain his goal of becoming a professional skateboarder. Paul was explaining that the movie is a real testament to skateboarders and their struggle, it’s not a sugar coated Disney kind of flick that skateboarders can’t relate to.Street Dreams is full of real situations and real struggles that aspiring skaters have to go through to make it to the top. Paul also explained that it shows skateboarding in a manner that isn’t cheesy or lame, like so many other films have. We’ve all seen the movie (or 10 movies) with the guy carrying a skateboard at a party who is seen as “the loser,” the “druggy”, and the guy who always says “Awesome!.” You won’t find that in this film. In Street Dreams, you’ll see real skaters skating real spots. There is nothing in it that negatively portrays skateboarding. Keep your fingers crossed that the movie hits theaters, it should be a good one.
Paul has been extremely busy shooting photos and footage lately, last week he got 3rd place at Tampa Pro which landed him $10,000. On top of all that, Paul’s brand new shoe, the Nike P Rod 2 just launched this last Friday. Paul is on fire and we couldn’t be happier for him. I’d also like to mention that Paul has one of the best attitudes of any skateboarder that any of us at Active have ever encountered. There are around 50 people that work here at Active Headquarters, and Paul came through and introduced himself to every single person here, nice guy! On a side note, as we were chatting, Paul explained to us about how he saw the movie “300” a couple times and realized that fellow Plan B Team Rider, Danny Way, is a Spartan. We agreed, Danny Way’s blood line is definitely of Spartan origin. There’s a ton of other stuff we can go into about Paul and his extraordinary life, but that will be saved for some other time. Make sure you go pick up a pair of Paul’s new Nike shoes, as well as Silver Trucks, and Plan B Decks! Also, don’t forget we are having a Nike signing with P Rod at our Simi Valley Store this Saturday, March 24th. See you there.
