Ambiguous Corey Smith Art Show

bjork.jpg

We had a Corey Smith Art Show with Ambiguous, in Costa Mesa at the CAMP, on the 8th of April and it went off like the fourth of July! If you don't already know who Corey Smith is, he is an amazing Artist as well as a talented Professional Snowboarder. Corey is a well-rounded acrobat, of sorts.

[zp]coreysmithartshow2006[/zp]

We had a fully stocked wine, champagne, & Red Bull bar, tons of Chipotle and a couple Dj's kickin' the party up a notch all night. The show was at the CAMP in Costa Mesa and if you are in the area you have to check this place out, it's amazing. Many art lovers, Active & Ambiguous Enthusiasts and friends showed up. Everyone from Dylan Reider, theSkateboardMag's current issue- #27, New Jack, to Johnny Layton, Active Mailorder's Newest Pro.

Every time I have been to an art show there is always a weird sense of uncomfort, maybe it's just me, but this time around everyone was amazing and welcoming. There are two factors that I can also place blame on the fact that this went so well with:

A: There was a lot of booze flowing from about 6 pm, so by 8 pm everyone was just having a good time, by 11pm they flying by the seat of their pants.

B: That this was simply a harmonious crowd that wanted to co-exist in relentless peace and love that only exists in fairy tales.

I don't know which is right or which is more appropriate, but it was a positive experience nonetheless.

Ambiguous is rad, Corey Smith is rad, the CAMP is rad and we can't thank all of them enough, for making this night as memorable as it was, for everyone in attendance. Until next time:

KAYO Video Premiere’s-‘Check Um’

crowd_rancho_1.jpg

We had a two-day KAYO Video Premiere fest on March 24th and 25th and they both went amazingly well. The first night was at Rancho the kids were out and all about KAYO. There were people freestyle rapping for product and everything you'd hope to see at something KAYO is a part of! We had a huge signing there and the night was over only to re-live it again the next night in Burbank.

Enjoi- Brea Active Premiere

header_002.jpg

Ahh yes, the re-cap. Last Friday, March 17th, we held our own Official Active So Cal Premiere at Active Brea. There was rain once again and we were thinking we might have to pull the plug on the Enjoi Premiere's existence, but the rains dissipated and we knew we would be seeing the Bag of Suck in all its glory. Brea had an amazing turn-out. Yes it was cold, but the people who came out to the premiere didn't care, it didn't even phase them. They wanted their Bag of Suck Premiere and we gave it to them.

DC CREW GOES TO WORK ON THE STREETS OF OZ

The DC Skateboard Team is at it again, this time traveling to the other side of the world to hit the streets of Australia. The trip down under, set for April 6th through the 21st, is the first time the guys have gotten together on such a large scale since the world tour for the DC Video Premiere in 2003.

skate-1.jpg

Danny Way, Colin McKay, Brian Wenning, Ryan Smith, Ryan Gallant, Darrell Stanton, Devine Calloway, and Sean Malto will be busy on the trip: a series of demos and autograph signings are scheduled in each city and in between events the crew will be filming and exploring Australia's street terrain. Aussie Jason Ellis will serve as MC for the demos while DC Australia Skate Team Manager Andrew Currie will be showing the crew the best spots in the land.

“This is going to be a sick skate trip for the guys,” said Shawn Baravetto, DC's Skate Promotions Director. “With demos at good parks and a lot of solid street skating in one of the best places in the world, how can you go wrong?”

During the trip we'll keep you completely updated on the team as they hit Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, and Sydney. Look for daily blogs in the skate section at dcshoes.com. Stay tuned:

DC SKATEBOARD TEAM MEMBERS HIT THE ROAD WITH PLAN B

Colin McKay stopped by the DC Headquarters in Vista this week and let us know that he, Danny Way, Ryan Gallant, and Darrell Stanton are heading to Hawaii this week for a Plan B team trip. They'll be relaxing, skating, and possibly doing a little filming for the upcoming, highly anticipated Plan B video (be patient, the video's production is still in its early stages). Stay tuned to the Newsclip- as usual we'll make sure to keep you posted with what happens while the guys are in Hawaii.

DC DOMINATES DAYTONA
RC WINS! MILLSAPS WINS! PASTRANA BACKFLIPS?

A good show was expected and DC riders didn't disappoint at the Amp'd Mobile AMA Supercross Series, Daytona. Ricky Carmichael won the Supercross class and Davi Millsaps took the checkered in the Supercross Lites class. RC is now the points leader the AMA Supercross Series and Davi now has a very comfortable lead in the East Supercross Lites title chase.

In the SX main event RC settled into second but took over the lead a few laps later thanks to his trademarked consistency. Once in the lead RC stayed there, leading the race for the next 18 laps and finishing with a very comfortable 30-second lead. “My goal was to come here and do better than I did last year,” said Carmichael. “In the main, I felt super-comfortable: I'm glad to get out of here with the points lead.”

Millsaps proved why he's the one to watch in 2006 by taking the holeshot in the SX Lites main and leading for every lap after that. While most riders struggled through the whoops, Davi Millsaps cruised through them quickly and comfortably. This was the third win of the season for Millsaps and his fourth consecutive podium.

Crowd-favorite Travis Pastrana raced in Daytona too. After winning his qualifier Travis made sure the fans were on their toes by attempting a backflip as he crossed the finish line. That's right, a backflip. In a Supercross race. Only Travis Pastrana! From there he went on to make the main event thru the semi, but unfortunately had to bow out at that point because of sickness.

From here the Amp'd Mobile AMA Supercross Series heads down the road to the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Florida. Stay tuned for more action courtesy of DC Moto: the SX event airs on SPEED on 3/19 at 6 PM EST.

NEW GUMBALL 3000 VIDEO: CHECK DCSHOES.COM

It's been nearly a year since the DC crew brought their tricked-out Subaru's to Europe for the Gumball 3000 rally and we're still uncovering new footage from the event. Recently we found a box of never-before-seen tapes full of Gumball highlights, and now we're giving them to you in the form of a new video at dcshoes.com.

The Gumball Rally is a six-day, thirteen country race through Europe at speeds of up to 180 mph. Last year's race started in London and made its way through the eastern block, finally finishing in Monte Carlo. Racers have to deal with a lot: language barriers, European cops, stiff competition, and the ever-present threat of a high-speed crash that could disintegrate any car.

The new video at dcshoes.com gives you the chance to get inside the cars of Rob Dyrdek, Big Black, Ken Block, and Damon Way as they maneuver the fan-filled streets of various European countries. There's always a good chance things can get interesting in Europe, but when you throw Dyrdek, Big Black, and the rest of the DC crew into the equation things get downright funny. It's long, over 10 minutes, so sit back, relax, and enjoy the Gumball highlights. Click here.

DANNY WAY IN THE PAGES OF THRASHER

If you check out this month's Thrasher you'll find more of their big Skater of the Year feature, complete with a interview with the only man to win the award twice: Danny Way. In the interview Danny discusses what skating is like for him now (vs. the first time he won the SOTY), looks back at his first SOTY party, and how he felt when he won the award the first time (and the second). He also breaks down his trip over the Great Wall of China, who among the new-crop inspires him, and his picks for who else he thinks can handle the physical challenges of the MegaRamp.

Besides the interview you'll also find a couple of photos of Danny: one's a vintage shot of a backside noseblunt slide on a curb, and the other is a newer one of a 360 on the MegaRamp. See it all in Thrasher, on stands now.

SIMON CHAMBERLAIN WINS IN JAPAN

Simon Chamberlin

Last weekend the Japan's annual SlopeStyle went down, and DC's Simon Chamberlain brought home the victory in the Rail Jam portion of the event, beating out Matt Hammer and John Jackson. Simon displayed the tech-wizardry he's known for, taking home $2000.

After the big checks were awarded Simon joined the rest of the competitors and spent hours signing autographs for the always-eager Japanese fans. Congratulations to Simon on a fantastic event!
