Thursday of last week, in honor of Active's newest store in Santa Monica, California, Active teamed up with OBEY for one of the most anticipated events of the year the Active/Obey Box set release and autograph signing.
Fans of Shepard Fairey, the visionary behind the Obey phenomenom, were lined up early to get their hands on one of the one hundred Active/Obey Box sets.
The box set included a hat, skateboard deck, t-shirt and poster all with an exclusive graphic designed by Shepard Fairey himself. The graphic was a tribute to cult classic early 80's skate companies with a modern spin.
OBEY and Active were both founded circa 1989, and the collaboration celebrates the great relationship between the two companies.
By the time Shepard Fairey started signing, his fans were chomping at the bit to get a chance to meet the legend. Fans came from as far away as San Francisco to get not only the box set, but also to get some of their own personal collection of OBEY gear signed. The news of the signing couldn't keep skateboard legend Chad Muska away either. One fan (pictured below) brought his own full size tribute painting to show off to Shepard making it very clear who his inspiration is.
Shepard graciously signed everything everyone had, and then thanks to the Red Bull for the DJ table and product, Shepard Fairey spun records the rest of the night which created a great atmosphere for everyone hanging out and shopping at the greatest Active store yet, Active Santa Monica.
Special thanks to Chris from OBEY, Dan Flores and Kelly from Red Bull for helping make this night a success.
