The STITCH: New Music – GRIMES

grimes

Recently, I’ve been discovering more and more musical artists to lust over.  Just the other night I saw synth pop/electronica band Grimes play at the Echo in Los Angeles. Grimes (aka Claire Boucher) released her latest album, Visions, last week. Her dreamy synths and eclectic sounds mix perfectly, making her music sound extremely complex. It was mesmerizing to watch her effortlessly loop her voice and mix numerous sounds and beats LIVE. Check out Grimes on iTunes and go see her on tour!

Here are some photos from her show at the Echo:

The STITCH: Exploring Seattle

A few weeks ago I took a trip up to Seattle, WA to visit one of my best friends, Cambria. It was my first time there, so she wanted to show me all that the city has to offer…which is a lot!

Cambria, our friend Trina, and I spent a lot of time shopping in the city! We stumbled upon a Crossroads Trading Co., which is a place where you can buy, sell & trade clothes, shoes, and accessories. They had a bunch of cute stuff!!

There are so many great places to eat in Seattle, and we ate at a lot of them during our trip.  My favorite was a vegan bistro in Capitol Hill called Plum. I had a delicious salad along with French pressed coffee…It was the best coffee I’ve ever tasted!

On one of our last days in Seattle, we ventured downtown to Pike Place Market . It is one of the oldest, continually operating farmers markets in the U.S.!  They have tons of cool knick-knacks, great food, beautiful jewelry, and many talented street performers. Cambria and I decided to play a few songs at one of the stations at the market. It was a lot of fun, and the people there were super friendly.

Cambria has an amazing view of the city. Her apartment building used to be a Wonder Bread Factory. They still have the original sign!

Overall it was a great trip with my best friends and I can’t wait to go back and visit again for round two of Seattle fun!

The STITCH: Now Playing

Here are the top 5 bands that are on current rotation in my car, shower, bedroom, you get the idea…

Check them out. Some are on tour for the next few months!

Blood Orange:

Blood Orange

Dev Hynes, aka Blood Orange, is a blend of smooth 80’s pop and modern alternative, with Fleetwood Mac slinky guitar riffs alongside sexy electro beats. After hearing “Champagne Coast” off his most recent album, Coastal Grooves, I couldn’t stop listening. It blows my mind how Hynes was able to modernize his 80’s influence into something new and refreshing. I can’t wait to see what he comes up with next.

“Champagne Coast”

Glass Candy:

glasscandy

Glass Candy is an electronic alternative pop duo made up of singer, Ida No, and producer, Johnny Jewel. Their sound is eccentric and really fun to dance to. I haven’t stopped listening to Glass Candy’s newest EP, Warm in the Winter, since seeing them perform live at FYF Fest last year. Johnny Jewel’s pure, solid beats, and Ida No’s calm, quirky vocals leave me wanting more after every song!

“Feeling Without Touching”

James Vincent McMorrow:

James Vincent Mcmorrow

James Vincent McMorrow is an upcoming singer/songwriter from Ireland. James’s hauntingly beautiful vocals give me chills every time I listen to his latest album, Early in the Morning. Check him out on itunes!

“Hear the Noise that moves Soft and Low”

Girls:

girls

Girls is an indie rock band formed in San Francisco. The two key members are Christopher Owens (lead singer & main writer), and JR White (producer & bass player). Girls released their newest album, Father, Son, Holy Ghost in September and are now on tour! I wasn’t a fan of their newest album at first, but after seeing them live a couple of months ago it totally changed my mind! It was one of the best shows I went to in 2011!! I highly recommend going to see them! Here’s a song off of their old EP, Broken Dreams Club.

“Alright”

Destroyer:

dan_bejar

Destroyer is an indie pop band from Canada. I love their newest album, Kaputt; which Pitchfork named second best album of 2011! Destroyer has a very unique sound that isn’t easy to master. It took me awhile to get used to their sound; it’s different than anything I’ve listened to. Kaputt has been one of my favorite albums to listen to the past couple of months. Check it out on itunes!

The STITCH: Music Meets Fashion – Little Dragon

After hearing Little Dragon‘s newest album, Ritual Union, a couple months ago I can’t stop listening to them. Little Dragon is a Swedish electronic band with music so brilliantly catchy, every song leaves me wanting more. Last week I saw them perform at the Avalon in Los Angeles, and it was one of the best shows I’ve seen in a long time. While the music was great live, I couldn’t help but be intrigued by lead singer, Yukimi Nagano’s style! She has a unique look about her; she’s quirky & eccentric, yet trendy & fashionable. This type of style is hard to pull off but Yukimi does it perfectly!

The STITCH: Fall Trends – 4 Ways to Wear a Dress

picture-1

Now that Fall has arrived, it’s time to begin shopping and dressing for the cool weather ahead. This has always been a weird transition for me. I get so comfortable wearing jean shorts, tanks and summer dresses, that I’m never ready to admit summer’s over by bundling up in an oversized sweater with boots. So, instead of going full force into the Fall season, I like to ease my way into it by pairing summer items with fall items. Here’s 4 ways to wear a summer dress from Active in the fall season!
